The client
The Port of Felixstowe, the largest container port in the UK, the 4th largest in Europe and the 13th largest in the world. Regular services from Felixstowe connect the UK with over 360 ports in over 100 countries worldwide.
The brief
Our third contract with the Port of Felixstowe extends the existing Business Intelligence solution to the areas supporting 'ship-side' operations such as movements within the yard and the density of the containers within it.
This will enable the Port of Felixstowe to analyse, in a consistent and scientific way, the relationship between 'ship-side' performance (their key deliverable) and the support functions. End users will be able to explore their information in an intelligent and interactive way.
It will further help the Port of Felixstowe see how it matches performance standards for various different shipping lines, vessels and each terminal within the port.
The outcome
Altimus' Consulting Manager, Richard Rose, explained, "The 'ship-side' performance analysis solution uses Microsoft SQL Server to extract, transform and load the data into a data warehouse from many different back-end systems. Microsoft Analysis Services generates analysis cubes and ProClarity software allows the end user to explore the data."
