| The analyse phase will use a whole range of tools to determine the underlying reasons for deviation from plan. This may include the use of analytics or data mining techniques. This part of the process may be undertaken by executives or managers themselves, or sometimes by dedicated analysts who understand the best ways to interrogate the data. Often it will also involve talking to people, examining systems and processes and other business as well as data analysis.
Once reasons for deviation are known then corrective action can be put in place to correct the reason for the deviation, or plans amended to make the boundaries of performance more realistic.
If a target is being met then it should also be considered in the analysis phase to see if the target is correct or needs toughening. All these decisions feed back into the planning part of the cycle, and the cycle continues. |
